Gonzales City Youth Program Wins Grant to Expand

GONZALES, Calif. -- The City of Gonzales announced the EnvironmentalLeadershipAcademy has been awarded a $15,000 grant from the Foundation of Youth Investment.

The group went through a rigorous review process to get the grant. The non-profit works to create programs for under-served youth in the community. They've created events to connect kids to the outdoors. Over the past three years the city has been hosting week-long environmental summer day camp programs for kids in 6 to 12th grade.

The curriculum was created after Gonzales got an award in 2010 from the Governor's Environmental and Economical Leadership Award for Children's Environmental Education.

For more information on the Environmental Leadership Academy, call the Recreation Program Coordinator at 831-675-5000.
