Welcome to the Special Operations Division of the Gonzales Police Department. My name is Fred Lombardi and I serve as the Supervisor of this division, which encompasses our Community Policing Program, Volunteers in Policing Program, Police Explorer Program and any special events assigned to the unit. I began my career with the Gonzales Police Department in 1988 as a civilian volunteer, so I am extremely proud the lead the unit where I started.

One of our biggest successes is our Community Policing Program, which is a collaborative effort between the Gonzales Police Department and our community that identifies problems of crime and disorder and involves all elements of the community in the search for solutions to these problems. It is founded on close, mutually beneficial ties between police and community members. At the center of community policing are three essential and complementary core components:

  • Partnerships between the Gonzales Police Department and the community.

  • Problem Solving as a method to indentify and solve problems of concern to the community.

  • Change Management within the police organization to accommodate increased community involvement.

Community Policing is a PHILOSOPHY for doing police work; PROBLEM SOLVING is the tactic or strategy used to solve community problems of crime and decay and PARTNERSHIPS are the tool or means with which the problem solving takes place.

The men and women of the Gonzales Police Department strive to serve our community in the best ways possible and to continue to make Gonzales one of the safest communities in Monterey County. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns or idea’s for continuing to make Gonzales a great place to live.

Thank You
